Question:
Dear Donna,
I am an LPN and former EMT. I have been in the profession many years, primarily working for agencies. For a few years I worked in an office while caring for my ill parents. I then was diagnosed with cancer and received treatment and am doing fine. I am interested in travel nursing. Do you have any advice for me? How can I find companies that are known for their fairness and staff support.

Dear Donna replies:
Dear Gracie,
I’m glad to hear you are doing well. It would make the most sense for you to do some informational interviewing (www.Nurse.com/Cardillo/Interviewing) with nurses who are current or recent travel nurses to get the inside scoop on good companies and those to avoid, and the particulars of travel nursing. You can find these nurses by asking around or posting an inquiry on the nurse.com forums (http://forums.Nurse.com/forum.php).
It would be ideal for you to attend nursing career fairs in your area. There generally are several travel nurse agencies exhibiting at these events. It would be a great opportunity for you to interact with them, learn more about traveling, compare benefits, etc. See what's coming up at www.Nurse.com/CareerFairs.
Happy trails,
Donna
